Shane of Quickstep

Shane Winnacott

I am responsible for multiple production lines across Quickstep, including advanced composite layup, NDT, machining and assembly for customers such as Northrop Grumman, BAE, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. There is a lot of variety and challenges – which is great.

Keeping it in the family

I have worked in aerospace manufacturing since leaving school. My father and my brothers have worked in the industry as well, totalling about 75 years’ experience between us. It’s definitely in the family. It’s kind of a family at work, too. It’s not always about business; we all love to have a joke together to help throughout the day. There are quite a few of us who worked together at Boeing – a lot of us have worked together for many years and that makes it a real team environment.

Keeping it interesting

There’s a lot I love outside work. I enjoy spending time with my nieces and nephews. I like getting outside on my motorbike or dirt bikes, and kayaking and hiking. And I love my dog and my reptiles – I’ve got snakes and lizards – and my fish. There’s plenty of variety at work, too.

I really love that I work in the aerospace industry and the feeling that I’m contributing to something important.
