Quickstep UAS | ONE System, ALL Missions

The Quickstep QU-1A is a modular uncrewed system, designed for high-performance and low-cost operations. Utilizing the TB2 proprietary DROPS system, the QU-1A ’Brolga’ autonomously captures, deploys, and releases ANY payload to meet ALL mission requirements.

The ability to role-change with minimal human intervention means better resource flexibility when it counts; no payload handling, just one UAS type delivering multiple effects: less training, less logistic support, and greater mission success at a lower cost.

System Overview

Most Uncrewed Systems are designed with a single mission in mind; ISR, Cargo, Comms link, Firefighting or Search & Rescue, the list goes on. We’ve changed the paradigm, creating a single, flexible platform that delivers your required mission through an independent but integrated Autonomous Payload Management System.

No more cross-training Pilots on multiple platforms, no more carrying spare parts for different systems; One UAS, delivering multi-mission capabilities through interchangeable payloads – that’s it!

The QU-1A ‘Brolga’ leverages TB2’s proprietary DROPS (Drone Recharging Operational Payload System). The TB2 System allows for automated location, identification, capture, and release of Payloads designed and integrated by Quickstep to meet a range of mission requirements. While the TB2 system is offered as a ‘bolt-on’ for other UAS, we’ve built this into the core QU-1A structure with increased structural strength and decreased weight. The QU-1A ‘Brolga’ is an all-electric eVTOL with a payload capacity of 20 kg and range of 100 km and is the first of a scaleable set of Aircraft of increasing range and payload capabilities using the TB2 DROPS.

The QU-3A ‘Protean due into service in late 2025 will have a performance trade-off space based on a 45 Kg lift capacity, and 750 km of range at 160 KPH. The QU-3A will be powered by a hybrid genset powertrain, running on field available fuel. Onboard batteries provide 15 minutes of hover or payload exchange time, with some TB2 DROPS compatible payloads able to provide additional battery power to the UAS through contactless connections to substantially increase hover time.

TB2 DROPS Compatible Payloads

Quickstep is creating a supply chain of the best equipment providers across various mission domains. Our in-house design, manufacturing, and integration capability allows us to take the best sensors and hardware and build it into a Payload pod to meet any mission requirement.

At the heart of our Payload Systems is the DROPS (Drone Recharging Operational Payload System), a TB2 Aerospace proprietary UAS-To-Payload interface system that allows compatible UAS to autonomously find and self-locate onto a payload pod, lock it in place, and automatically activate any hardware in the payload pod. With no human interaction needed in the docking and undocking process, personnel can focus on the current mission without distraction.

Depending on the lift capacity of your UAS, our aerodynamic pods can host a range of mission hardware components. Excess payload weight can be filled with additional power packs for added operational duration or as a backup for a powered payload system itself.

The TB2 DROPS system is standardized across all Quickstep payloads to reduce the logistics support footprint, and all TB2 payloads have been designed to be stackable and packable for easy transportation by Air, Land or Sea.

Quickstep payloads will cover a diverse range of mission types, such as:

  • Logistics / Cargo / Tactical Resupply
  • ISR / Battle Damage Assessment (BDA)
  • Secure Comms Link
  • Emergency 5G and Data connectivity for HADR Missions
  • Search and Rescue with Survival Kit Deployment
  • Mapping and Linear Infrastructure Data Capture
  • Bushfire Detection and Suppression
  • Battlefield Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC)

Whatever your mission, we can provide the payload solution you need for your TB2 DROPS equipped UAS, or Quickstep can provide a complete mission solution using Quickstep’s range of UAS built around the TB2 System and where payload weights permit.
