Quickstep Holdings Limited is an Australian publicly listed company at the forefront of advanced composites manufacturing. Quickstep is the largest independent aerospace-grade advanced composite manufacturer in Australia, partnering with some of the world’s largest defence organisations, including Lockheed Martin (US), Northrop Grumman (US), Boeing Defense (US) and BAE Systems (UK), as well as Australian-based companies Marand Precision Engineering and Chemring Australia.

Quickstep’s headquarters are located in Bankstown, NSW, along with a Global R&D Centre and a Demonstrator Manufacturing facility located at Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus in Victoria. Quickstep currently employs 240 people in Australia and internationally. The majority of Quickstep’s revenue is attributable to defence export, with the Bankstown site 100% export focused. Quickstep is a major supplier to the global Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, manufacturing and supplying a range of centre fuselage and vertical tail composite parts for the F-35 aircraft.

Quickstep anticipates that the business will grow continue to grow strongly in FY2020 as JSF deliveries ramp up towards peak production volumes over the next 18 months. The group’s revenue is expected to continue to grow in FY2020 and gross margins will continue to improve as the group benefits from economies of scale and increasing efficiencies.
Quickstep has significant growth potential through securing additional composite manufacturing contracts, primarily in the aerospace sector, using traditional techniques and its proprietary advanced manufacturing Qure and QPS technologies; these provide faster, more controllable methods for curing of parts and enable a Class A finish. Quickstep continues to focus on winning new customers and contracts, and supporting growth through partnerships to build scale.

Quickstep will further accelerate its business development activities to win additional business, through its tiered growth strategy:

  • Core Defence Aerospace: Increasing revenue and diversifying the company’s customer base within the Defence/Aerospace sector utilising existing facilities, while expanding core capabilities.
  • Aerospace Qure/Advanced Manufacturing Deployment: Strategic growth within the Aerospace and other sectors, using Qure and innovative technology solutions to attract new business opportunities.
  • Commercial Market Growth: Expansion into Commercial Aerospace supply. Securing of global programs and/or inorganic growth across the wider defence, commercial aerospace and other advanced industry sectors.
  • The company has a healthy project pipeline and is well positioned for future profitable growth. The group continues to be focused on high value, expanding global markets.

Mark Burgess


Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director

Mark joined Quickstep on 8 May 2017. With over 20 years’ experience in the global aerospace and defence industry. His successful delivery of profitable growth and complex projects in advanced technology businesses has led to significant employer, customer and industry recognition.

Mark has held leadership roles of increasing responsibility for British and American companies across Europe, North America, the Middle East and
Asia. After a 16 year career in BAE Systems covering sales, contracts, project and general management Mark joined Honeywell in 2013 as Vice President Asia Pacific.

In this most recent role Mark had operational and P&L responsibility for Honeywell’s defense, space and commercial helicopter business division in Asia.

Mark has extensive experience of governance and stakeholder management, working with public, private and not-for-profit sectors. He has managed several successful post acquisition integration projects and has held numerous board positions on subsidiaries and international joint ventures.

Mark holds a degree in Politics and Economics from the University of Hull and has completed several post graduate studies in business and operations management.

Alan Tilley

Alan Tilley


Chief Financial Officer

Alan Tilley is a seasoned senior executive and finance professional with over 30 years’ experience across a broad range of sectors and geographies.

Alan joined Quickstep as Chief Financial Officer in June 2018 and prior to that was Interim CFO at Murray Goulburn for 12 months. Previous to Murray Goulburn, Alan was Group CFO with NRMA Motoring and Services with a broad range of responsibilities including Thrifty Car Rental, Finance, Treasury, ICT, and Procurement.

Before joining NRMA Motoring and Services Alan held senior Finance roles with Brambles (based in Brussels, Belgium), and Transfield.

Alan started his career with Price Waterhouse including a 3 year secondment to their Paris office. Alan was instrumental in implementing an innovative funding solution for Thrifty Car Rental and is passionate about driving improved business performance. Alan has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from UNSW, is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Graduate of the AICD.

Jacque Courtney-Pitman


Executive General Manager Human Resources

Jacque Courtney-Pitman joined Quickstep Holdings in March 2016 having previously held the role of General Manager, Corporate Services for Devine Limited. Prior to this she held senior human resources positions with large companies from diverse industries including Jones Lang LaSalle, Veolia Water, Coca Cola, Berri and Wyndham Vacation Resorts.

Jacque brings over 20 years’ experience in strategic and operational human resources and business support functions and is passionate about developing and driving HR strategies across all levels of the business, to a achieve strong, performance driven and inclusive culture.

Jacque holds a Masters in Business Administration, Bachelor of Business majoring in Human Resources, and other post graduate studies in Career Counselling, WH&S, and Training which are complemented by other executive leadership programs from ASGM and AICD.

Executive General Manager Engineering & Technology

David has been actively involved in the aerospace industry since the mid-1990s when he graduated from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, the city in which he was born, with a BEng and MEng in aerospace engineering. He started his career with Aernnova´s composites division in Spain, also including some time at Embraer. He spent several years working as a senior aerostructures engineer between Boeing (Seattle and Sydney) and Airbus (Madrid and Ankara). During this period as a technical specialist, David participated in the development of the most relevant aircraft programs launched at the time, including the Airbus A380, Boeing 777-300ER, Airbus A400M and Embraer E170.

David enrolled in a full time global MBA program at INSEAD, one of the world’s top-rated business schools. Upon graduation he married and migrated with this wife to Australia. After several years down under, managing R&D programs to automate industrial processes, David returned to Europe and to the aerospace industry. Running an independent company first, later integrating AERTEC Solutions an AIRBUS´ Tier 1 supplier, he contributed to the expansion and internationalisation of the company as their top executive in the manufacturing engineering division. David then joined MTorres in a plant manager capacity. During this period David ran MTorres’ facility in the South East of Spain, where he led development of composites automation technology for aircraft assembly lines, robotic cells and cutting edge composite manufacturing systems. More recently and just before joining Quickstep, David has been exploring opportunities around aviation electrification and how this potential revolution can alter the industry and generate new business opportunities.

General Manager Corporate Affairs

Carl has significant business development experience and an extensive knowledge of the global and Asia-Pacific automotive sectors, having worked in both China and Thailand, between 2007 and 2013. Carl has held a number of senior management roles in Business Development, Country Management, Corporate Planning and Human Resources and previously worked for Futuris Automotive Group, a global automotive seating and interiors provider and Air International, a global automotive air conditioning systems supplier. Carl holds a Diploma of Teaching and a Bachelor of Business in Human Resources Management.

Steve Osborne


General Manager Business Development

Steve Osborne joined Quickstep as General Manager Business Development in April 2018 after a 27 year career at BAE Systems, preceded by nine years’ service in the Royal Australian Air Force as an Engineer in various Operational and Training roles. Over his Military and Civilian career Steve has held responsibilities thru a broad range of functions such as Operational Support, Aircrew Training, Commercial, General Management, Offset, and Government Relations.

His personal highlights include supporting an Operational Squadron of Saudi Air Force Tornado Fighters in Operation Desert Storm for which he received the Gulf War Medal in 1992, and in 2012 securing a $4b Eurofighter Typhoon sale for BAE Systems from the Sultanate of Oman.

He is currently based in Texas establishing Quickstep USA Inc. onshore capabilities and developing Industry and Government relations in pursuit of new business.

Gary Robinson - Executive General Manager

Gary Robinson


Executive General Manager Manufacturing Operations

Gary Robinson is an executive manager with extensive experience across Operations, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, Product Development and M&A in medical devices, automotive and defence industries. Prior to joining Quickstep, he spent 17 years at ResMed in senior management roles with the most recent being responsible for the operation and integration of an acquired medical device business in Austin, Texas. Immediately prior to this, he was responsible for ResMed’s global supply base where he focused on the development of strategic partnerships to drive quality, value and innovation.

Gary is an Aeronautical Engineer and has a Masters of Business Administration from the AGSM. In addition, he has completed courses in Negotiation, Project Management, OH&S and Coaching.

Mike

Mike Schramko


General Manager Programs

Michael (Mike) Schramko has a diverse background that includes work within Airbus in the UK, Hawker De Havilland and Boeing Aerostructures in both the US and Australia.

He has extensive experience in operations, production, product development, engineering and program management.

Mike recently moved into his current role with responsibility for growing the business through additional sales for existing products and securing new business contracts.

Mike joined Quickstep in 2011 as Operations Manager, leading the establishment of Quicksteps aerospace manufacturing capability, as well as relocating this facility from the company’s original location in Perth, to the current location in Sydney. Prior to joining Quickstep, Mike was the Operations Manager for the Fisherman’s Bend site of Boeing Aerostructures Australia. Prior roles within Boeing included engineering design, product development and program management responsibilities. Mikes holds a Bachelors Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Sydney.
