Chris of Quickstep

Chris Miller

I’m an engineer and I work across the entire spectrum of product projects. I may be part of the tender process, new product projects or supporting Operations and Sustainment. I love the journey from concept to series production – and I’m passionate about design and development. I have a Master’s in mechanical engineering and a post-graduate diploma in project management.

A passion for technology

I have 20 years’ experience in engineering with an emphasis on product development and introduction. About half of that time was in the auto sector, most recently at Tesla, in California, and early on in my career at General Motors Holden and Toyota. In between time, I spent 10 years with Cochlear Ltd, designing and delivering state-of-the-art hearing implants for adults and children. While I was in San Francisco’s Bay Area, I acquired my private pilot’s licence.

Mentoring for success

I love the positive engagement with people that comes with my role. I work with, and often lead, large, cross-functional teams that are responsible for design and delivery. Nowadays, I’m often responsible for the development of less-experienced technical professionals. Big projects offer big opportunities for growth and accumulating professional experience, and I enjoy making the most of these experiences for both myself and my teams.

A fantastic future

Quickstep epitomises the future of manufacturing in Australia. We produce highly-engineered products for demanding applications. Servicing this niche and others like it, such as the commercial aviation and new mobility sectors, requires innovation, collaboration and a concentration of technical disciplines that’s difficult to find elsewhere in the world. By harnessing global inter-connectedness and high-tech tools used by bigger players, we can be a globally competitive aerospace supplier. It’s an exciting time to be part of it all.
